N-gage(ment) to death

Nokia, oh great Nokia, ruler of the mobile phone world has just lost a rib. A rib that has been a bother even in times of joy: when it was all profit that is.
N-gage, poor N-gage even your dad’s riches could not keep you going and going and eventually daddy has had enough. N-gage a step-child Nokia wanted to be recognized as an heir of the gaming world could not stand on its own two or four or eight legs however many it had.
Well I stand here today to announce that N-gage is being taken from among the children to be made a servant to Nokia’s babies. N-gage’s services will be seen at Ovi store scattered in a section called games.
N-gage is dead you guys, N-gage was dead! Oh N-gage rest in perfect peace! Competition was never your game so Ovi is clearly great for you. Looking forward to seeing your handiwork at the Ovi store- Akanman

Nokia N-Gage Platformunun Fişini Çekiyor

Nokia mobil oyun platformu N-Gage’in fişini çekmeye hazırlanıyor.

An itibariyle efsanevi oyun platformu üzerinden tüm desteğini çektiğini açıklayan mobil devi, N-Gage adına yeni oyunların yayınlanmayacağını ve N-Gage.com üzerinden satış yapılmayacağını belirtiyor.

LTE tests in several frequency bands

Nokia Siemens Networks is conducting end-to-end LTE interoperability testing with four leading device vendors across several frequency bands required in different regions, including AWS, 700 MHz and 2100 MHz. The tests cover several steps in end-to-end network configuration based on commercial LTE hardware, including the Flexi Multiradio Base Station and the Evolved Packet Core, and standard compliant software. The availability of commercial LTE terminals from multiple vendors and proven interoperability with networks providers is a prerequisite for any operator to launch commercial LTE services. NSN

Advanced Productivity Pack for S60 - Version1.00

Today i came upon a really interesting and handy application for mobile use. The application got Advance call manager,  Device Locks Professional and SMS Spam Manager , i would briefly discuss the benefits of the application

- Helps you from call spam and restrict calls when you busy and don’t feel like talking.

-Personalized and automatic response to callers.

-Password Protection for phone or on selected application.

- Remote lock in case stolen or lost

- SMS blocking and extra private storage for sensitive and private SMS

Before buying you can also have a trial version of it, I also tried the trial version first and liked it so much that could not resist buying it, it is compatible with most Nokia and Samsung phones,  worked fine on my Nokia N95.

The PC upgrade dilemma - don't let marketers sway you

There is an escalating war going on. It started in 2002 with Apple running their now famous Switch advertisements featuring what they call “Real People” who “moved out” of the Windows platform to the Mac. While the switch ad was later replaced by “Get a Mac” in 2006 (and still runs today). In recent years Microsoft has tried a similar tactic but focusing on freedom of choice as its primary value proposition.

I am a Windows user myself both at work and home. I also have a venerable iMAC running OSX 10.4 at home. When I first bought my iMAC I was surprised at how quickly my kids adapted to the new platform even though they bought used Windows PCs at school (they still do). But then again my kids used the iMAC mostly for Net surfing and checking out emails. My wife remains a Windows user although occasionally she powers on the iMAC when she wants a quick check on the web.

I continue to be amazed at the intense Windows versus MAC battles. Apple continues to run these ads enticing people to switch over. But really people, do you honestly think that switching over from XP to Mac OS X just because you hear the horror stories about the early days of Vista is going to be easy. For those who see the hassle of moving from XP to 7 as being difficult, you will face the same hassle of migrating from any Windows platform to Apple Mac.

The reality kicked me very early on when I bought my first Mac. I very quickly realized that I don’t have a plethora of choice in terms of software for the Mac platform. In fact software choice was limited especially during the days of the “G” series processors that powered the Macs of yester-years. Windows emulators back then were notoriously bad. The shift to Intel processors is certainly a welcome boost to most PC users as the Windows software emulators that followed were more stable. The mere presence of Windows emulators suggests that people are not totally out of the Windows world even when they shift to the Mac.

The Windows 7 platform appears (during my tests anyway on a very old – unsupported HP tablet TC1100) stable. It runs most of the XP applications I am familiar with. There is a bit of a learning curve as you learn to grapply with widgets. But the overall experience is pleasant and not as nerve wracking as when I moved to OS X the first time.

I love Apple for continuing to offer OS X upgrades at frequent interval. Likewise I deplore Microsoft’s slow and cumbersome strategy to OS platform upgrades. I can only guess that they are living by the truism “why fix something that ain’t broken?”

Today we live in an “experience” society where product success or failure can be measured by the experience of the individual. Enough individual experience can amass together to destroy (or make it difficult for) a product. The coverse is true. Just look at the mobile platform. For years the dominant OS was Symbian that powered Nokia. Then along came Windows that tried but failed to get sufficient traction because the PC experience is clearly not very conducive for mobile users. When Apple launched the iPhone, users quickly fell in love with the touch experience. Windows has tried to emulate this as it partners with device manufacturers to come up with better user interface but the experience isn’t quite up there as that of the iPhone/iPod Touch.

What I’m getting at here is that anyone who thinks that migrating from Windows XP to Mac OSX is going to be pain free will be in for a rude awakening, particularly for those who are heavy into Windows-based applications. Checkout whether the programs you have been using, and for which you have lots of data resting in archives – say your accounting program or your spreadsheets or your data files. Before you decide to switch to the “cool” MMac factor, find out if there are equivalent programs on the Mac platform that will take your data and allow you to move forward seamlessly. If this is not possible, your choice is clear, stay with Windows. The new Windows 7 platform is an amazing leap forward by Microsoft. I just hope that Microsoft moves a lot faster with its succession of OS updates.

PS: To Microsoft – notice how Apple’s OS is priced way, way cheaper than Microsoft’s? Apple has learned that the fastest way to get into people’s heart is through great experience. The fastest way of shifting hardliners is through their wallets.

N900 toimituksiin ensi viikolla

With N900, Nokia Still Not Close to The iPhone

The biggest challenge for any touchscreen smartphone, no matter how good or great, is that it will almost always be compared to the iPhone. Some of them like Verizon’s Droid and Blackberry Storm seek that comparison. Others are just going to have to deal with it. Nokia’s new N900 device is in the second camp.

I have been a harsh critic of Nokia’s inability to compete with Apple and Google’s Android-based smartphones. No one can accuse me of not making it clear that Nokia is on a very slippery slope and unless it fields a competitive device, it will continue to see its share of the smartphone market erode. Of course, as you know I am not a big fan of their multiple operating system strategy, but it is becoming clear: Nokia needs to move away from its aging smartphone platform, Symbian.

Nokia apparently realizes that and has been spending a lot of time and energy to build a a modern, Internet centric operating system, Maemo. The latest version of this Linux-based OS, Maemo 5 is the software that powers the N900, a $650 device that is likely to be released in the US soon.

I have been playing around with an early version of this device for about three days and have some impressions. I am breaking down the review into two components –hardware and software – because I think Nokia is getting a few things right!

Hardware: Why I wasn’t surprised

* The N900 resembles an old-fashioned cigarette pack, and it is not the prettiest device on the market. However, in comparison with its predecessors such as the N800 and N770 internet tablets it is absolutely stunning.

* The 3.5-inch WVGA screen is actually pretty stunning and it is easy to read documents on this Phone.

* So how does it stack up against the iPhone 3GS? It is a heavier and thicker and missing the sleekness of the Apple device.

* The keyboard on this device is cramped but still easy enough to use. I have always had problems with slider phones, so I am not surprised that I find the keyboard on this device is cramped. Despite small keys, the keyboard is usable. I only wish, Nokia made commonly-used keys such as the @ key easy to access.

* I am not a great fan of the resistive screen technologies and it is no surprise that I found interacting with the phone via touchscreen extremely painfully. Maybe it is my brain, wired to look for an iPhone like functionality, but N900’s touch features are extremely challenging.

* Nokia has a long tradition of providing the best mobile cameras in their phones and N900 is no different. The 5.8 Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens is phenomenal.

* The device has all the modern hardware trappings: WiFi, 3G, GPS and lots of storage. These are table stakes for any modern smart phone, so these features aren’t really much of a surprise.

* The battery power is adequate – better than any iPhone but much lower than classic Nokia phones.

* How does it function as a phone? It is unbelievably great and I experienced no dropped calls on the T-Mobile network. Not a single one. Furthermore, the N900 model I have is optimized for the T-Mobile USA’s 3G network, which makes it far more reliable that the AT&T 3G network.

Software: Why I was surprised

* I have been a long time user of Nokia Internet Tablets and as a result I have been highly skeptical of Nokia’s claims that it could be turned into a nice modern Internet centric smartphone OS. Well talk about being wrong!

* The Maemo OS used inside the test model of Nokia N900 that I received was an incomplete version of the software, and despite being rough around the edges, it surprised me with its nimbleness and robustness. It didn’t at any point feel like a Linux-based device, and thanks to a hefty processor the N900 feels as crisp as the iPhone.

* The UI of Maemo is crisp and clear, though it does look dated in comparison to Apple’s iPhone. I am going to go out on a limb and claim that the UI is marginally better than Android. Both these operating systems have one common fault: they look very much like a PC-inspired OS. That said, I think Nokia has still not mastered the art of NO. Apple makes its things great by leaving features out, Nokia somehow believes that adding more makes its products great. Maemo suffers from that, but it isn’t something Nokia can’t fix – quickly.

* The biggest problem I had with Maemo UI is that it isn’t unique enough. It is coming late to the market, and as a result it looks somewhat like MotoBlur – a screen with a lot of widget-styled apps. It uses multiple desktops and also multiple screens, which makes the user experience a tad confusing. That’s one of the only knocks I have on the OS.

* Mameo’s most stunning aspect is the tight and seamless integration of the Firefox browser. As I wrote yesterday, Firefox is perhaps N900’s single biggest standout feature. It works just like it does on a desktop and, thanks to the seamless integration of AwesomeBar, a smarter version of a URL bar that uses Mozilla Weave, I can get access to all my bookmarks, my browsing history and other preferences. (Related Post: “Coming Soon: A Mozilla App for the iPhone“) You can’t quite underscore the importance of this feature, especially on a device with cramped keyboard and a challenging touchscreen.

* Nokia is betting big on web-styled widgets. Some of the sample apps they have included in the phone – Evernote, Twitter, Dopplr, and YouTube – all worked well. I am sure more will follow. I am also ambivalent about Nokia’s OVI services which are pretty tightly integrated into the phone.

* It is the basic features on the N900 which are the most impressive: an easy way to get connected to WiFi, instant messaging app, great SMS messaging application and built-in VoIP are among the good things about this device.

Bottomline:

I was conflicted about the N900. I don’t want to give Nokia a hard time on it: they have made tremendous progress and with the N900 they are on the right track. This phone gets a 6/10 from me: mostly because of the progress they have made on the software front. If you have never used an iPhone, this is a pretty good device. In fact, a lot of folks in many parts of the world are going to find this device much more useful than say the N97.

Like a great home run hitter who has lost his swing and is only one double away from getting his swing back, I think Nokia is a device or two from posing a strong challenge to its competitors.

iPlayer on Nokia 5800 (S60, 5th Ed)

The great BBC iPlayer (www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer) works very well on several devices, I have already blogged about this for iPhone/iPod Touch devices and now I’m using it on my Nokia 5800. When streaming video I suggest you use a Wi-Fi connection rather that potentially high 3G/GPRS costs. Catching up on what you’ve missing from the Beeb is quite watchable on a handheld device, especially in a landscape view; as shown below. The best thing about iPlayer on the 5800 is that you can download a free widget that actually lets you download the iPlayer show etc on to your smartphone; I suggest you save it on to the memory card. I use a 8GB MicroSD card in my Nokia 5800, which I picked up for only £10 from CEX (www.cex.co.uk). Sorry about the quality, I couldn’t use my onboard screen-capture software, obviously a DRM issue, so a quick snap from my Samsung Omnia camera-phone.

U.S. International Trade Commission confirms ruling in favor of Nokia

October 17, 2009

New York, NY, United States – Nokia announced today that the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) has reviewed the Administrative Law Judge’s (ALJ) Initial Determination in favor of Nokia, in the action brought by InterDigital. Following the review, the Commission has affirmed the ALJ’s Initial Determination and terminated the investigation.

Nokia is delighted with this outcome. Not only did the Commission conclude that Nokia products do not infringe InterDigital’s patents, but it also withdrew the portion of the ALJ’s Initial Determination that had found the patents valid.

The case, filed by InterDigital, alleged that Nokia infringed four patents that InterDigital asserted as essential for the UMTS (3G) mobile standard. Today’s result is consistent with a previous judgement in the United Kingdom that found several InterDigital patents not to be essential to the UMTS mobile standard.

We’re a team!!!

Vanessa Hudgen – Sneakernight

Lũ con trai chúng tớ thực hiện đúng yêu cầu nhá, all sneakers!

That’s right, it’s our generation!

Trà My – I still adore her beauty, very unique.

Đây gọi là dịp để các má-này-ghê làm quá!!!

Tít nhìn yêu như em bé, nghe ku Hàng Tồn bảo giọng cũng ok.

Búi nhỏ búi to lah.

Hay là do ánh sáng?

More group shots.

Chí Thiện và Tâm Tít – xứng phết nhỉ? [Nói coi chừng nhỏ Băng Di bay ra đánh ghen hoho. ]

Mai Lâm đang thử hành nghề paparazzi, chưa chắc tay bằng em nhoa.

Nào chúng ta cùng măm! ^_^

Mai Lâm hok phải quản lý của Chí Thiện, đề nghị các anh chị phóng viên đưa tin chính xác nha. Manager của Hoàng Tử Lai chính là… chồng Mai Lâm.

Mobilen, ikke alltid like bra

AT&T and worsening bandwidth crisis

Last week at the CTIA, AT&T acknowledged that it is having issues with the bandwidth and how the some users were utilizing lot of data bandwidth and how it was impacting the service. Clearly, AT&T has its hands full satisfying demand for data bandwidth with its existing user base which according to research has increased 5000 times over the last 3 years. Inspite of this, hardware manufacturers continue to launch new products on the AT&T network. We know that Dell is planning to launch its new Android-based mobile phone on the AT&T network. Today, Nokia announced that it will launch its new netbook, the Booklet 3G on the AT&T network for $299.99. Not to mention, RIM launching its new white Blackberry Bold, LG & Samsung continuing to provide additional new products. Given all this, I have just one question: What are they thinking?

From a business sense, it is logical to go where your consumers are. Granted, AT&T has one of the largest customer base in US and have been very successful with iPhone. But, given the bandwidth crunch AT&T is facing, if I am one of the executives making this decision, I would really not want to launch on this network, especially if it is a new product. Ultimately, no matter how good a device, customers buy the complete package: mobile device and the service. And if the customer is not going to have a quality experience on my device because of issues at the service provider, guess what they are going to say: the device is no good, since it keeps dropping the connection.  I know this is not the device fault because I am enough of  a geek to know what is causing this. Even an average consumer may have heard or know that connection loss may not be the fault of the device. But, if it occurs repeatedly, most consumers will give up on the device, much like I have the iPhone which I use only as a secondary phone. For my business, my primary phone is still a Blackberry 8830 on the Verizon network.

Already, living in Silicon Valley, I am reminded daily of the AT&T bandwidth issue on my iPhone. Sure, AT&T is working on fixing this issue and I know that because I got a mailer from them stating that they have improved the coverage in my area. Guess what, inspite of that, my iPhone keeps dropping the calls atleast 3-5 times a day. I am truly dreading what will the impact be on the AT&T network once the new devices are in consumer hands.

Nagradna igra

Vjerujete li u nagradne igre, a?

Neki kažu i monopolističkog!

I, šta biva? Pa sami sebi (korisnici) darujemo jednog među nama ovim divnim primjerkom čudesne GSM-tehnologije!

Sad će neko reći: ” TABKO otkrio toplu vodu!”

Hahahahahaha

Jock’   jOO bOO…

Šta je ovdje BH Telecom? Ništa! Samo organizator (igre)!!!

Vaše mišljenje, molim…

How to Format a Nokia 6600 Device

Steps:

1. Turn your device off.
2. Remove SIM card and MMC card (actually, you do not need to remove these, but after format remember to format memory card and reboot phone).
3. Press and hold 3 keys; Green dial key, * Star key, no. 3 key on keypad Together.
4. Turn your device on while you are pressing the three buttons.
5. You should now see “Formatting ..” on the Screen! Leave the buttons now.
6. OR
7. You can remove the mmc but keep the sim card and restart your phone.
8. Then press the keys *#7370#.
9. The phone would ask a confirmation.
10. Select yes.
11. Then it will ask for a code.
12. The code is 12345 (the default).
13. There you are! your phone will restart with all the phone memory formatted.

Tips:
- You can also use some programs to format the device for you.
- The format will not include the MMC Card, only the device (C Drive)…
- The above method isn’t always easy. You can do the format using this simple key combination *#7370# and the phone will prompt you to enter the phone lock code which is 12345 by default.
- Also remember that you can reset your phone but not loose any of your personal files (I.E restore the settings that came when you bought the phone while keeping contacts etc) by following the above procedure but using the code *#7780#

Warnings:
- Don’t apply these steps if you are not sure what you are doing.
- Make sure you have enough battery power before beginning this procedure.
- Formatting will erase all your contacts/messages, so make a backup of your phone before formatting.

Symbian Expo!

My friends at Sony Ericsson have brought the rather brilliant Symbian Exchange and Exposition 2009 event being hosted in London on October 27th and 28th to my attention. If you’re anything like me, you share an unhealthy interest in mobile development and the mobile industry, this event is sure to provide more than your usual fix of networking and news. The ‘bleeding edge’ SE&E line up boasts a keynote speech from Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia and others yet to be confirmed. The event is aimed at the pro and amateur developer community to  network and hear about the latest news from Symbian and it’s partners in industry (most notable Nokia and Sony Ericsson). Is it too convenient that this event coincides with big advertising launches from the other big hitters in the mobile industry? Ovi from Nokia? the Windows Phone Market Place? hmm, interesting times for the developer!

China's No-Name Giants Move to Build a Brand

Huawei maybe the best company many Americans and Europeans have never heard of, and that's a big problem for China, according to a recent report in Newsweek entitled Generic Giants. With revenue of more than $18 billion in 2008, soon it will overtake Nokia Siemens as the world's second-largest maker of telecom hardware, after Ericsson.

The challenge for many Chinese companies as they go global is to build an attractive brand image that motivates consumers to pay premium prices for their products. Headquarters in booming Shenzhen, the telecommunications equipment-maker with a hard to pronounce name made BusinessWeek's latest list of the world's 10 “most influential” companies, alongside Apple, Wal-Mart, Toyota, and Google. Yet Huawei is by far the least internationally recognizable name on the list.

The Chinese government is calling on local companies to build up their brands. According to Newsweek, Premier Wen Jiabao in March called for China to create companies that can innovate and churn out “brand-name export products”—meaning companies with reputations for quality, innovation, and service so strong that customers are willing to pay a premium for their products.

And Huawei is not the only company trying to change its business strategy. In March, Shandong-based manufacturer Haier announced that it was leaving direct manufacturing and concentrating on building the company's brand and service network. Despite Haier's fame as a manufacturer, the move was not unexpected, said Kent Kedl, general manager of Technomic Asia, a market strategy consultancy.

“It's a very natural progression. I don't think that's a surprise… that's the way all brands need to go.” Kedl was quoted in the China Economic Review (CER) as saying. “They start off with the manufacturing

Nokiaa koskien tuli tänään parikin mielenkiintoista uutista. Microsoftin Windows mobile 6.5 luurit tulevat vihdoin markkinoille.

USAssa iso operaattori AT&T näyttää lähestyvän Nokiaa ja Symbiania. Se aikoo mm. alkaa ensi kuusta lähtien tukea Nokian Ovi Storea ja uusia luureja Nokialta on päässyt jakeluun. AT&T alkaa myös tukea Opera-selainta ja “täyttä webbikokemusta” luureillaan. AT&T ei kuitenkaan aio tukea Nokian 3G Booklettia.

Nokia N97 Mini tulee UK:ssa myyntiin jo 23.10. Tuo on varmasti yksi tärkeimmistä Nokian luureista loppuvuonna ja ensi vuoden alussa. Ehtii kehrätä mukavan myynnin jo 4Q:n aikanakin. Samoin E72 on Pohjois-Amerikassa jo ennakkotilauksissa.

Ai niin ja Samsungilta tuli ennakkotietoja 3Q tuloksesta. Hyvin on mennyt sillä voitto tuplaantui viime vuotisesta 3.7 miljardiin dollariin. “Earnings will likely fall in the fourth quarter as LCD prices have turned lower, the handset division will spend more on marketing as usual, and its rivals have quickly caught up in the LED TV sector“. Kännyköistä Samppa ei puhunut mitään. Samsungin kurssi on noussut tänä vuonna jo 67% eli paljon paremmin on mennyt kuin Nokialla.

Four questions about the Microsoft-Nokia alliance

The Microsoft-Nokia alliance turned out to be a lot more interesting than the pre-announcement rumors made it out to be. Rather than just a bundling deal for mobile Office, the press release says they’ll also be co-developing “a range of new user experiences” for Nokia phones, aimed at enterprises. Those will include mobile Office, enterprise IM and conferencing, access to portals built on SharePoint, and device management.

Of those items, the IM and conferencing ideas sound the most promising to me. Office, as I explained in my last post, is not much of a purchase-driver on mobile phones. And I think Microsoft would have needed to provide Nokia compatibility in its mobile portal and device management products anyway.

I understand the logic behind the alliance. Nokia has never been able to get much traction for its e-series business phones, and Microsoft hasn’t been able to kick RIM out of enterprise. So if they get together, maybe they can make progress. But it’s easy to make a sweeping corporate alliance announcement, and very hard to make it actually work, especially when the partners are as big and high-ego as Microsoft and Nokia. This alliance will live or die based on execution, and on a lot of details that we don’t know about yet.

Here are four questions I’d love to see answered:

What specifically are those “new user experiences”?

If Nokia and Microsoft can come up with some truly useful functionality that RIM can’t copy, they might be able to win share. But the emphasis in the press release on enterprise mobility worries me. The core users for RIM are communication-hungry professionals. If you want to eat away at RIM’s base, you need to excite those communicator users, and I’m not sure if either company has the right ideas to do that. As Microsoft has already proven, pleasing IT managers won’t drive a ton of mobile phone purchases.

Will Microsoft really follow through?

Microsoft has been hinting for the last decade that it was were willing to decouple mobile Office from the operating system, but they never had the courage to follow through. Now they have announced something that sounds pretty definitive, but the real test will be whether they put their best engineers on the Nokia products. If Microsoft assigns its C players to the alliance, or tries to make its Nokia products inferior to their Windows Mobile versions, the alliance won’t go anywhere interesting.

What does this do to Microsoft’s relationships with other handset companies?

Imagine for a moment that you are the CEO of Samsung. Actually, imagine that for several moments. You aren’t exclusive with Microsoft, but you’ve done a lot of phones with Windows Mobile on them. Now all of a sudden Microsoft makes a deal with a company that you think of as the Antichrist.

How do you feel about that?

I can tell you that Samsung is not the most trusting and nurturing company to do business with even in the best of times. So I think you make two phone calls. The first is to Steve Ballmer, asking very pointedly if you can get the same software as Nokia, on the same terms, at the same time. If you don’t like the answer to that question, your next call is to Google, regarding increasing your range of Android phones.

Maybe the reality is that Microsoft has given up on Windows Mobile and doesn’t care what Samsung does. But that itself would be interesting news.

I would love to know how those phone calls went today.

What does RIM do about this?

It has been putting a lot of effort into Apple-competitive features like multimedia and a software store. Does it have enough bandwidth to also fight Nokia-Microsoft? What happens to its core business if Microsoft and Nokia do come up with some cool functions that RIM doesn’t have? Are there any partners that could be a counterweight to Microsoft and Nokia? If I’m working at RIM, I start to think about alliances with companies like Oracle and SAP. And I wonder if Google is interested in doing some enterprise work together.

Nokia E 72 vs Nokia N 900

I know a lot of people who are confused, tearing their head off and waiting for some new software to make a devine selection for them. Well, I am talking about people who are confused about their next phone. It is a death match between Nokia E 72 vs Nokia N 900. As for me, I know my which one of these is going to be my next phone (grin)…

Nokia E 72 and Nokia N 900 are two divices which look like they are just out of area 51’s production section – Very futuristic and extemely competeive..From an “Outside” view at this phone, they have similar features. Both of these come with a 5 MP camera, a 600 MHZ processor, 3.5G (10.2Mbps HSDPA, 2Mbps HSUPA), amazing battery life, etc. When you “Pop the hood” and take a peek under it, it is a complete different story.

Nokia E72: This is a great device with an amazing performace. It runs on an ARM 11, 600 MHz processor backed by a 128MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. Nokia E 72 boasts about a battery which can provide 20 days of stand-by time and 12.5 hours of talk time..For all those people who travel a lot, it comes with Global Roaming and Assisted GPS service. The camera is not Carl Zeiss but can take pictures at 5 megapixel and record video at 15 frames per second, quater visual graphic array(QVGA). Video Playback protocols are MPEG4, 3GPP, Realvideo 7, 8, 9 and 10,H.263 and Flash Videos. Talking about data-trasfer on this phone, it is mind boggling. GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA 1.8 Mbit/s/HSDPA 3.6 Mbit/s/HSDPA 7.2 Mbit/s/HSDPA 10.2 Mbit/s/HSUPA/HSUPA 2.0 Mbit/s with a series 60 Complete HTML supported browser.

Nokia N 900: This is another work of art that anyone would want to get their hands on. This horse is powered by an TI OMAP 3430: ARM Cortex-A8 600 MHz processor with a 256 MB RAM / 768 MB ROM. This device supports Global Roaming like Nokia E 72. Nokia N900 comes with a Carl Zeiss lens with 5 megapixel camera and records at 25 frames per second – at 828×480 VGA display. I know I have not mentioned anything about the OS.. I thought I would save the best for the last but I just can’t hold on to it. N900 runs on the newly introduced Maemo OS. Maemo was developed on a Linux platform and is expected to be an excellent touch-screen device. N900’s data transfer is same as the one on Nokia E72. Finally, it is very evident that Nokia N900 is going to be the winner here but I think I am going to stay with Nokia E 72. The reason being, Symbian is Nokia’s original OS. None of us are aware of the issues/bugs if any on this OS. I am not ready to gamble here pople. The horses under the hood are pretty much the same. Now, Comparing the price of these two devices, N72 being $400 and N900 being $740, I think I would stick with Nokia E 72 till things are fixed on Nokia N 900.
